How Yoga Improves Your Body, Mind and Spirit
By Melissa Morkus

Today’s society is primarily focused on image. People try everything to get thin from trying wacky diets, taking dietary pills and some even result to getting surgery that costs thousands of dollars.

One healthy way to slim down that a lot of people haven’t heard of is yoga. Yoga in ancient Indian language means “union.” It is the union of one’s mind, body and spirit. Not only can this healthy exercise help you slim down and tone your muscles, but it also helps you get in touch with your mind and spirit. By focusing on your breathing and being in the present, yoga clears away all the stress and worries of the day.

Debra Obryan, a yoga teacher at Zen Zone in Lees Summit, Mo., stresses how important yoga is in our lives.

“Yoga is so good for our bodies and I’m on a mission to share it with everyone I know.”

The combination of stretching and lengthening your muscles, strengthening your core and opening up your air passage ways all aid in having a more healthy and fit body.

Four Reasons to do Yoga
  • To heal injury or disease
  • To re-shape your body or gain strength, flexibility and balance
  • To transform stress into harmony
  • To further your Spiritual Journey
