Developing a healthy lifestyle

Maintaining a healthy bodies becomes more challenging as we grow older.  At some point most of us need to make a lifestyle change that helps to keep our bodies strong and reduce excess weight.  Even if you don’t need to lose weight, you likely need to make some lifestyle changes so as to increase strength and maintain high levels of body functions.

Because of the aging baby boomers, health care and prevention is becoming more important.  Most baby boomers are living longer and looking for alternative ways to keep themselves strong. Many companies are providing nutritional supplements and programs to reach this large demographic.  Morinda’s Tahiti Trim 40 program was established to help women lose weight and gain greater body strength. It is the first and only program to address all of the specific needs of women over 40 -- hormonal changes, body changes, food cravings, plateaus, and maintenance.

The Tahiti Trim program balances nutrition, exercise, and supplements as a means of weight reduction and building healthy bodes.  The program is based upon a number of key principles and provides products to support your goals.

  • Eat healthy foods and limit sugars and carbohydrates.  Replacing “comfort foods” with a healthy diet of proteins, vegetables and fruits, and carbohydrates will provide greater energy and help you feel better all around.
  • By eating five smaller meals a day instead of three larger ones can raise your metabolism and help you burn fat.  Waiting too long between meals can lower metabolism so the body burns fat more slowly. An appetite suppressant decreases your desire for food by increasing your metabolism.
  • Balance your proteins, carbs and vegetables at your regular meals. For example, at breakfast, eat 1 portion of protein, 1 portion of carbohydrate, and 1 portion of fruit.  Use your fist size as a means of measuring your portions. Similarly, balance proteins, carbohydrates, and fruit and vegetables at lunch and dinner.
  • For smaller meals at mid-morning or mid-afternoon eat fruit and protein.  Morinda offers bars and shakes that can provide a good meal substitute for snacks.
  • Drink water throughout the day.  One suggestion is that you drink your body weight in ounces of water. Since our food is deficient of many of the valuable nutrients we need, take supplements of the nutrients, vitamins and minerals.
  • On a monthly basis follow a program to cleanse your body of impurities and get you ready for your healthy diet. Morinda offers a fruit drink to assist in your cleanse.
  • Exercise at least three times a week for a half hour or more each time.  Exercise should combine both aerobic and strength training.  Aerobic exercise keeps blood vessels large, wide open. And clear.  Strength training builds muscle, burns fat, and strengthens bones as well.
  • Avoid eating after 8 p.m. at night.  Record what you eat, your water consumption, your exercise, and supplements.
  • Set goals and recommit on a weekly (or daily basis, if necessary). Join a support group of like-minded people and meet on a weekly basis to share your experiences and encourage each other.  If there is not a support group in your area, we will help you organize one.

Following a healthy diet which balances your intake of protein, carbohydrates, and fruits and vegetables, exercising regularly, and supplementing your diet with nutrients, vitamins and minerals will lead to a stronger body and longer life.  On a weekly basis, we will be providing tips for doing this that can be shared in your support group.  In addition, you can listen to a weekly conference call about the Tahiti Trim Plan 40 at 7 p.m. MST by calling 1-800-282-4036. Contact the editor at livingbetter.org for more information or to answer your questions.  We will be glad to explain more about products and ideas that will help you reach your goals.
